NOPD Investigates Homicide at South Claiborne Avenue and Canal Street

The NOPD is investigating a homicide incident this morning February 16, 2019, near the intersection of South Claiborne Avenue and Canal Street. 

At around 4:35 a.m., First District officers responded to a call of a male shot at the intersection of South Claiborne Avenue and Canal Street. Officers arrived at the intersection, where they discovered an adult male victim lying face down under the Interstate 10 bridge. The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and body. He was later pronounced dead on scene by EMS, via a medical doctor.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
