NOPD Investigates First District Homicide
The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting near the intersection of Canal Street and North Claiborne Avenue.

First District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at or around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 10). Upon arrival, officers observed a black male subject lying under the bridge suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name upon completion of autopsy and notification of family. There are no additional details available at this time.
