WANTED: NOPD Identifies Suspect in First District Homicide

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Waldale Stanley (DOB: 11-19-1995) in the investigation of the homicide of Philip Thomas that occurred on February 10, 2019 at the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Canal Street.

First District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at or around 7:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers observed a black male subject lying under the overpass suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office as Thomas, was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives positively identified Stanley as the perpetrator in this incident and obtained a warrant for his arrest on a charge of second degree murder.

In addition to the murder charge, Stanley is also wanted in connection with multiple vehicle burglaries reported on February 8, 2019 in the 900 block of Convention Center Boulevard.
