NOPD Identifies Suspect Wanted for Additional Charge in Armed Robbery on Soniat Street

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Timara Johnson (DOB: 11-21-1997), who was originally arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in the 2400 block of Soniat Street on January 7, 2018, but is now being sought on an additional charge in this incident.

The victim told police that as he arrived home and exited his vehicle at about 12:20 a.m., two unknown vehicles arrived at his location. The vehicles reportedly stopped near the victim’s vehicle, and two unknown black males exited from the vehicles, both armed with handguns. One of the subjects allegedly demanded the victim’s property at gunpoint, to which the victim complied. The victim told police he also heard a female voice come from one of the subjects’ vehicles demanding the subjects take everything from the victim. The subjects then fled the scene in the original two vehicles, as well as the victim’s vehicle, which was driven by one of the armed suspects.

On January 8, Second District officers apprehended Edward Gresham (DOB: 12-17-1988) in connection with this incident, after he was found to be in the area of Lasalle and Amelia streets driving a vehicle later discovered to be the vehicle reported stolen in the aforementioned armed robbery. After a brief foot chase, Gresham was apprehended arrested for illegal possession of stolen things, flight from an officer and related traffic infractions. A gun found on the scene during investigation also led officers to arrest Gresham, a convicted felon, on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm and violation of parole. Gresham was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on the aforementioned charges.

On January 24, Johnson surrendered to Second District officers and was arrested and booked on charges of possession of stolen items, credit card fraud and identity theft in connection with this incident. Detectives determined Johnson as a suspect after she was identified in surveillance video allegedly attempting to use the victim’s reported stolen credit card at a gas station.

As investigation progressed, detectives were also able to positively identify a 16-year-old juvenile male (DOB: 11-14-2001) as a suspect in this incident. Officers arrested the juvenile on February 2 at a school in the 600 block of Paris Avenue and booked him into the Juvenile Justice Center for armed robbery with a firearm.

Through additional investigation, Second District detectives were able to establish that Johnson was directly involved in the armed robbery incident beyond the previous charges, along with the arrested juvenile suspect as well as the second armed suspect.

As a result of this discovery, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Johnson, who remains at large, on a charge of armed robbery with a firearm.

Investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing.
