NOPD Arrests Two, Confiscates Three Guns and Narcotics

Fourth District officers have taken three more guns off of the street and arrested Direll McClure (DOB: 3-14-1986) and Kirk Powell (DOB: 4-20-1995) for illegal carrying of firearms and possession of narcotics.

As part of an effort to address recent violent offenses in the area, Fourth District officers have begun proactive patrols throughout the area. On February 13, 2017, the district’s General Assignment Unit was patrolling areas along the Tullis Drive corridor when officers spotted four individuals, including one who was a person of interest related to a recent shooting in the 5600 block of Tullis. When officers attempted to initiate a lawful pedestrian stop to investigate, the four individuals fled on foot.

Officers were able to apprehend and handcuff all four without incident. During the subsequent investigation, officers confiscated a bag of marijuana and three firearms, including a Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a Smith and Wesson .32 caliber revolver, and an Interarms 9mm semi-automatic handgun.

Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
