NOPD Investigating Traffic Fatality in Fourth District

Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Unit are investigating a Traffic Fatality that left an unknown woman dead, this morning around 6:40 a.m. on the Woodland Bridge.

According to investigators, the driver of a 2010 Ford Mustang was heading westbound on the bridge. The driver struggled to view the road due to the heavy fog and struck a pedestrian that was walking on the Woodland bridge. After being struck by the vehicle, the victim was ejected from the apex of the bridge to the ground area beneath the bridge. The driver of the Ford Mustang immediately pulled to the side of the bridge and called 911.

Emergency Medical Technicians arrived shortly after the call and declared the female pedestrian deceased on the scene

The investigation is ongoing. The Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information about this accident is urged to contact Traffic Fatality Investigator Richard Chambers at 504-658-6207.
