NOPD Investigating Homicide in Seventh District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred during the evening hours on December 28, 2022, in the 4800 block of Viola Street leaving one person dead and a second injured.

At about 8:11 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 16-year-old juvenile male gunshot wound victim had relocated from the scene to a local hospital.

Approximately two hours later, after the scene had been cleared, a second gunshot wound victim was found in the area near the scene. The victim was declared deceased on scene. At that time, the incident was reclassified as a homicide.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
