NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On December 1, 2022, the NOPD arrested Martin Hurtado (white male, DOB: 07-25-1993) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred that same evening in the 2100 block of Saint Charles Avenue.

At about 10:54 p.m. on December 1, NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of a disturbance at a hotel in the block. Upon arrival, officers arrived on the sixth floor of the hotel and found a male victim unresponsive in a hotel room and having sustained visible injuries to the head. The victim, who was determined to be a 75-year-old male from Missouri, was transported to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

Responding officers located a male subject at the scene who was found to not be an occupant of the room nor the hotel and placed him under arrest. Upon further investigation and questioning, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives determined the subject – identified as Hurtado – to be the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder.

Hurtado was booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and determine official cause of death upon completion of autopsy.

No additional information is currently available.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
