NOPD Investigating Homicide in Third District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred this evening (December 25, 2019) in the 1300 block of Senate Street.

At about 8:02 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with a gunshot wound to the back. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he later died. At that time, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed control of the investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.

No further details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
