NOPD Arrests Suspects for Aggravated Assault, Illegal Firearm Possession in Seventh District
The NOPD has arrested Ta’juan McKnight (pictured at left, DOB: 07-05-1999) and Nathan Jackson (photo unavailable, DOB: 10-19-2000) in connection with an aggravated assault incident that occurred on December 18, 2018 in the 9900 block of Carter Street.

The victim told police that shortly after 8:25 a.m., she was driving in her vehicle in the 9900 block of Carter Street. As she approached the intersection of Read Boulevard and Carter Street, she reportedly observed two black males later identified to be McKnight and Jackson standing outside of an apartment. One of the subjects then allegedly grabbed a handgun from the front of his waistband and pointed it at the victim. At that time, the victim reportedly rolled down her car window and told the subjects that she was not the person they were seeking. The subjects both then reportedly apologized to her and the victim fled eastbound on Carter Street, where she flagged down an NOPD officer.

Officers responded and located two subjects matching the description given by the victim at the intersection of Curran and Read boulevards. As officers attempted to speak to the subjects, the reportedly armed subject – identified as McKnight – fled from officers on foot. Officers apprehended the subject in the 7600 block of Read Boulevard, and also confiscated a loaded firearm reportedly seen being thrown by the subject onto a roof as he fled from officers.

McKnight was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for aggravated assault, illegal carrying of a firearm, carrying of a firearm in a Firearm-Free Zone and flight from an officer. Jackson was arrested and booked with aggravated assault.

The location of the incident was within 1,000 feet of two schools, which brought about the Firearm-Free Zone charge.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact the NOPD Seventh District at 504-658-6070.
