NOPD Arrests Suspect in Shooting at Chef Menteur Highway Discount Store

The NOPD has arrested Kerry François, Sr (DOB: 8-17-1983) in connection to a triple shooting that occurred this morning (Dec. 12).

Around 6:21 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 6700 block of Chef Menteur Highway. When officers arrived, they observed a 45-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, a 61-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the buttocks and a 74-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the knee. All three were transported to a local hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening wounds.

During the course of the investigation, police learned that the 45-year-old male victim, who is an employee at the discount store, became involved in a verbal altercation with a female customer who was demanding a refund. Her husband, Francois, who was outside of the store at the time, entered the store and also began arguing with the store manager. The manager then requested that they both leave the store. The female and Francois agreed to leave and the store owner walked them out of the store while armed with a handgun. Francois and the female then got into their vehicle and began to pull off. Then police believe Francois stopped the vehicle, got out with a gun, then opened fire from the parking lot into the store striking all three victims. The 45-year-old store manager did not fire his weapon.

Francois was arrested on the scene without incident and booked accordingly with three counts of Aggravated Battery by Shooting.

If you have any information about this incident please contact Seventh District Detective Donald Sharp at 504-658-6070. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
