Today (Dec. 22), members of the NOPD’s Violent Offenders Warrant Squad arrested Malika Smith (07-07-1996) in connection with an aggravated assault with a firearm that occurred on October 6, 2016 in the 8600 block of Dinkins Street.

The victim told police that as she arrived at a residence at the location, she observed her brother engaged in a verbal altercation in front of the residence with his ex-girlfriend, later identified as Smith, and one of Smith’s friends. The victim said that as she exited the vehicle, Smith and the friend allegedly approached her in a threatening manner and that Smith was brandishing a black handgun. The victim also said that Smith allegedly threatened the victim's mother with the handgun. As the victim called police, she said, Smith fled the scene on foot.

During the course of investigation, detectives were able to positively identify Smith as the suspect and obtain an arrest warrant. Smith was arrested at her residence and booked into Central Lockup on three counts of aggravated domestic assault with a firearm.
