NOPD Arrests Suspect in Investigation of Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

Today (August 22, 2025), the NOPD arrested Jose Javier Suazo (Hispanic male, DOB: 05-13-2007) in its investigation of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on June 14, 2025, at the intersection of North I-10 Service Road and Bundy Road.

At about 9:00 p.m. on June 14, an adult female was riding her bicycle westbound on North I-10 Service Road along with another bicyclist, when a 2008 Dodge Caravan approached from her rear. The vehicle then crashed into the rear of the victim’s bicycle, ejecting her from the bicycle onto the roadway. The victim was subsequently pronounced deceased on scene. The Caravan then fled the scene without notifying the police or seeking medical attention for the victim.

Throughout the course of their investigation, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit detectives determined the suspect vehicle and driver. The vehicle had been found abandoned and burned in an attempt to destroy evidence. The driver, identified as Suazo, was arrested today and booked into to the Orleans Justice Center on charges of hit and run driving involving death or serious bodily injury, of reckless operation of a vehicle, obstruction of justice and of falsifying a police report.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit detectives at 504-658-6205.
