NOPD Investigating Homicide in Fifth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (August 13, 2021) in the 2200 block of Piety Street that left one person deceased and a second person injured.

At about 5:46 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the 2200 block of Piety Street. While en route to the scene, officers received a call of a vehicle near the intersection of Humanity Street and Ursula Spencer Way with heavy damage. Officers arrived at that scene and located a vehicle with two male subjects inside, both having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. One victim was declared deceased at the scene, while the second victim was transported via EMS. The incident is believed to have originated at the Piety Street scene, with the victims relocating to the Ursula Spencer Way location.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
