NOPD Investigating a Traffic Fatality in the Third District

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred today (August 19, 2021) in the 3700 block of Gentilly Boulevard.    

At around 5:43 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a traffic accident with injury call at the location.  Upon arrival, officer discovered an overturned vehicle and a 20-year-old male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.    

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim, driving vehicle #1, was travelling at a high rate of speed on Gentilly Boulevard.   At some point, and for unknown reasons, he struck another car (vehicle #2) before leaving the roadway.  Vehicle#1 hit two trees and two poles before coming to rest.  The driver of vehicle #2, a woman, stayed on scene and has no reported injuries.       

No additional information is available at this time.  The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the decedent and determine the official cause of death, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
