NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD today (August 4, 2021) arrested Keldon Castro (pictured, black male, DOB: 01-15-2003) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on July 15, 2021 in the 2100 block of 2nd Street.

At about 3:15 p.m., NOPD Sixth District detectives responded to a notification of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male subject lying on the ground and having sustained a gunshot wound. Officers soon after learned of a second victim at the location who also sustained a gunshot wound. Both subjects were transported via EMS to a local hospital.

On July 27, one of the victims in this incident was pronounced deceased, at which time the investigation was transferred to NOPD’s Homicide Unit.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed Castro as a suspect in this incident. Today Castro, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in to NOPD Homicide Unit detectives in connection with this investigation. He was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Det. Rayell Johnson at 504-658-5300 or call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
