NOPD Investigating Fatal Double Shooting in First District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred this evening (August 3, 2019) in the 400 block of South Genois Street involving two victims, one of which has died.

At about 8:55 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to an area hospital via EMS.

Officers also learned that a second male victim also sustained an apparent gunshot wound in this incident and was transported via private conveyance to an area hospital, where he later died.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
