Suspect Sought in Armed Carjacking on North Broad Street

The NOPD is seeking assistance from the public in locating and identifying a subject believed to be responsible for an armed carjacking that occurred in the 200 block of North Broad Street on August 20, 2017.

At about 6:26 p.m., the victim exited the Dollar General store at 230 N. Broad Avenue and entered his silver Honda Civic – bearing Louisiana license plate #825AYE –  in the parking lot. As he attempted to leave the location, the victim observed a black male approaching his vehicle from the front. The subject then allegedly brandished a small black pistol and threatened to kill the victim if the victim did not give him his money, cell phone and vehicle. The subject then reached into the victim’s two front pockets, taking the victim’s cell phone and cash. The victim then exited the vehicle and the subject entered the vehicle, fleeing the scene. The victim also noted that his passport was inside of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The subject is described as a black male with brown skin and a thin build, standing 5’8” tall and between 25-30 years of age. He was last seen wearing glasses, a blue and white baseball cap, a blue and white horizontal striped shirt, black pants and black boots.

Anyone with further information on this incident is asked to contact First District detectives at 504-658-6010. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
