Suspect in 2015 New Orleans Homicide Arrested in Houston, Texas

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies on August 20, 2017 arrested Shanta Massey (DOB: 06-19-1993), who was wanted by the NOPD in connection with the homicide of Jeren Johnson that occurred on December 6, 2015 in the 2600 block of General Collins Avenue.

At approximately 8 p.m., NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of a male victim at the location having been shot. When officers arrived, they found that a silver Nissan Altima car had struck a parked Ford truck. Upon investigation, officers found a 25-year-old male – later identified as Johnson – shot inside of the Nissan Altima and the driver, a 20-year-old male, that was injured who was on the scene. Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene, while the 20-year-old male driver was transported to the hospital for treatment.  

As investigation into the incident progressed, Massey was developed as the perpetrator and a warrant was issued for Massey’s arrest on a charge of second degree murder.

On August 20, 2017, the NOPD’s Violent Offenders Warrant Squad (VOWS) received information that Massey was located at an apartment complex in Houston, Texas. VOWS notified the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and provided warrant information on Massey, and Harris County deputies located and arrested Massey, who was booked on a charge of second degree murder. A photo of Massey is not available at this time.
