Suspect Arrested for Pointing Firearm at Motorist on 1-10 East

NOPD Seventh District officers arrested Byron Roberts (DOB:7-6-1988) after he reportedly pointed a firearm at another motorist while they were traveling east over the I-10 High Rise Bridge.

The incident happened on July 20, 2017. At around 6:43 p.m., the pictured subject pointed a firearm at another motorist while traveling in a vehicle. After the incident, the victim was able to copy down the license plate number which led detectives to the suspect’s parents. They advised officers that the vehicle belonged to their son, identified as Byron Roberts.

Detectives were able to obtain Roberts' address where a search warrant was executed on August 17, 2017 with the assistance from the VOWS Unit. During the search, Roberts was arrested and was found to be in possession of a fully loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson that can be seen in the above picture.

Through the course of the investigation, a criminal history check revealed that Roberts had a previous felony charge, and was therefore also booked with felon in possession of a firearm.

He admitted to officers that he was on the interstate that day and that he was involved in an altercation with a unknown male subject while going over the high rise. Roberts was also booked with aggravated assault with a firearm.

Roberts is pictured above with the vehicle and firearm that is believed to have been used during the incident.
