NOPD Identifies Suspect in Auto Burglaries in Eighth District

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Nepton Hatfield (DOB: 04-01-1956) in connection with two reported auto burglaries in the Eighth District.

At about 5 a.m. on March 24, 2017, a vehicle burglary was reported in the 400 block of North Rampart Street. The victim had parked her 2004 Buick Century in a parking lot in the area at around 9 a.m. on March 23. When she returned to her vehicle at around 5 a.m. on March 24, she discovered a small window on the rear driver’s side door had been broken with a rock, which was found inside the vehicle. The victim also found blood on the vehicle’s door, rear seat and a white undershirt on the rear seat, and reported that cash she had stored in the vehicle was missing.

On March 21, 2017, a vehicle burglary was reported in the 300 block of Notre Dame Street. The victim told police that at about 8:15 p.m., he checked into a nearby hotel and had his car parked via valet in a parking lot in the 300 block of Notre Dame Street. When he returned and requested his vehicle from the valet at about 9 a.m. on March 21, the vehicle was returned and the victim saw that the rear passenger side window had been smashed, a large wooden 2x4 board lying on the rear seat and a sock not belonging to the victim in the middle console. A box containing a pair of Jordan Retro 13 shoes was reported stolen from the vehicle. Blood stains were also found on the vehicle’s rear interior door panel.

As investigation into the incidents progressed, Hatfield was developed as the perpetrator in both instances.

Hatfield is known to frequent the Eighth and First district areas.
