The NOPD is investigating a fatality that left a 63-year-old man dead. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The incident took place this morning, April 27, 2023, around 11:40 a.m. A white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling northbound on Franklin Avenue. As the vehicle reached the intersection at Lakeshore Boulevard, for reasons unknown, the vehicle disregarded the stop sign, drove through the intersection, and knocked down a cement barrier before driving into the water of Lake Pontchartrain.
The vehicle was later recovered from the lake and found occupied by the driver. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Orleans Parish Coroner will release the victim’s name and conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
