New Orleans - The NOPD has arrested 48-year-old Terrence Leavell, (DOB: 05/07/1977), in connection with a homicide that occurred at N Claiborne Avenue and Desire Street, in the Fifth District on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

At about 5:00 p.m. on the date, NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call an auto accident and shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers located a 41-year-old Hispanic male inside one of the involved vehicles suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

While investigating the shooting on the scene, officers detained a 48-year-old male. Through investigation, detectives positively identified Terrence Leavell as the perpetrator. Leavell was arrested without incident and booked on charges of Manslaughter, Possession of firearm or carrying concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies and Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities.

The Investigation remains ongoing.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
