NOPD Announces Arrests, Warrant Issued in Investigation of April 7 Homicide

The NOPD today (April 30, 2026) announced the arrest of six individuals and a seventh suspect sought in its ongoing investigation of a homicide that occurred on April 7, 2026, near the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Desire Street.

At approximately 5:01 p.m. on April 7, NOPD Fifth District officers responded to calls reporting an auto accident and shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers located a 41-year-old male inside one of the involved vehicles suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On April 9, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Michael Garcia and determined cause of death to be from gunshot-related injuries.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD Homicide Section detectives determined that multiple individuals opened fire at the location at the time of the incident, with Garcia driving through the area and having no connection to the incident when he was struck.

Within hours of the incident and supported by information from the community, detectives identified and arrested Terrence Leavell (black male, DOB:05-07-1977) in connection with this incident. Leavell was booked on one count each of manslaughter, felon in possession of a firearm and illegal use of weapons.

Through further investigation, detectives determined this violence stemmed from a narcotics-related dispute involving multiple individuals.

On April 10, Alshawn “Osama” Watts (black male, DOB: 02-25-2005) was interviewed by detectives and subsequently arrested in Jefferson Parish on one count of second-degree murder, as well as an outstanding warrant with additional narcotics charges following the execution of a search warrant.

Through continued investigative work, NOPD Homicide Section secured multiple arrest warrants related to this case. As of this writing, six of seven wanted suspects have been apprehended.

Arrested suspects include Watts and Leavell, along with the following suspects:

  • Joshua “Money” Emery (black male, DOB: 01-11-1987), arrested on one count of second-degree murder
  • Caron “Rondo” Fortenberry (black male, DOB: 02-23-2001), arrested in St. John the Baptist Parish on one count of second-degree murder.
  • Bennalynn Ingram (black female, DOB: 01-11-1987), arrested on one count of accessory to second-degree murder.
  • Mi’janae “Gunna” Ingram (black female, DOB: 01-05-2006), arrested on one count of second-degree murder.

The suspect still at large has been identified as Byron “BB” Dubose (pictured, black male, DOB; 07-31-2002). Dubose is wanted on one count of second-degree murder.

Investigation into this incident is ongoing. No additional information is currently available.
