The NOPD today (April 27, 2022) obtained an indictment on a murder charge against Tyrone Steele (pictured, black male, DOB: 05-05-2003) in the investigation of a homicide where the victim was discovered on March 21, 2022, in the 4200 block of Hamburg Street.
On March 21, the body of an unknown individual in an advanced state of decomposition was located within an abandoned structure in the 4100 block of Hamburg Street At that time, the incident was deemed an unclassified death. Upon completion of autopsy, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office determined that the unknown decedent was a black male and the victim of a homicide by shooting. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has not yet officially released the identity of the victim.
Through further investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Steele as the perpetrator in this incident. Today (April 27), members of the unit presented their case against Steele to the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Special Grand Jury, which handed up a second-degree murder indictment.
Steele, arrested on March 30, is currently in custody at the Orleans Parish Justice Center and facing multiple charges - including four first-degree murder charges - in two additional homicide cases. Steele will be booked accordingly on the additional charge.
