NOPD Arrests Suspect on Illegal Firearm Charges After Standoff

The NOPD arrested Yul Bean Sr. (pictured, black male, DOB: 07-05-1973) on April 24, 2021 on firearms charges after he allegedly fired a weapon, before an hours-long standoff with police that ended peacefully.

At about 12:49 a.m., NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1900 block of Elizardi Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that a subject later identified as Bean was the perpetrator in this incident and was located inside of his residence. Officers attempted to call Bean from his residence, at which time he reportedly refused and threatened to resist if officers attempted to enter his residence. At that time, officers created a perimeter around the location and contact NOPD Special Operations Division’s SWAT team to assist. After several hours of negotiations, Bean exited the residence and was arrested without incident.

A warranted search of Bean’s residence revealed several firearms and ammunition, including one firearm which was found to have been reported stolen.

Bean was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on charges in this incident of illegal discharge of a firearm, resisting arrest and illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Bean was also booked on additional warrants out of Orleans and Jefferson parishes.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040.
