NOPD Arrests Suspect in Seventh District Shooting

The NOPD arrested Walter Jackson (pictured, black male, DOB: 10-21-1995) in the investigation of an aggravated battery by shooting on April 24, 2021 in the 7400 block of Bullard Avenue that left one person injured.

At about 2:35 p.m., NOPD Seventh District detectives were notified of the incident, where the male victim was reportedly in his vehicle stopped at a traffic light when a subject approached and began shooting at the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital via EMS for treatment, while the suspect reportedly fled into a nearby residence.

NOPD Seventh District officers and NOPD Special Operations Division officers located the subject, positively identified as Jackson, and apprehended him a short time later. Upon obtaining a search warrant for Jackson’s residence, a search revealed multiple handguns, ammunition and cell phones. The pictured rifle was found to have been reported stolen out of St. John the Baptist Parish.

Jackson was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for aggravated second degree battery, domestic criminal damage, simple criminal damage to property and multiple outstanding warrants out of Jefferson Parish.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070.
