NOPD Arrests Suspect in Fourth District Shooting Incident

The NOPD has arrested Byron Pierre (pictured, black male, DOB: 06-28-1974) as the suspected perpetrator in a shooting that occurred on April 14, 2021 in the 3900 block of Behrman Highway.

At about 7:38 p.m., NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 3900 block of Behrman Highway. Responding units located a scene at a business in the area in an adjacent field, which included a discarded handgun. However, a victim could not be located. The victim later arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm.

While on scene, a subject later identified as Pierre spoke to an NOPD officer and advised he had been involved in shooting incident at the location. Pierre later arrived at the Fourth District Station, where he surrendered both himself and a firearm he allegedly used in the incident.

Through investigation, detectives determined that for unknown reasons, Pierre fired at and struck the victim. Additionally, a bullet believed to have been fired from Pierre’s gun struck a nearby residence. No injuries were reported.

Pierre was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office for attempted second degree murder, aggravated criminal damage and relative to illegal discharge of a weapon.
