NOPD Announces Significant Arrests, Clearances Between April 11-17

Listed below are significant arrests or clearances through warrants or exception obtained between April 11-17, 2021 in investigations by the NOPD:

Shootings

  • On April 17, 2021 NOPD Seventh District detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rochard Jones (black male, DOB: 10-15-1992) on charges of aggravated battery by shooting, aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm during commission of a violent crime and for felon in possession of a firearm. The warrant is in connection with an incident that same day in the 7000 block of Martin Drive.   • On April 15, 2021, NOPD Fourth District officers arrested Byron Pierre (black male, DOB: 06-28-1974) for aggravated battery by shooting in an incident that occurred on April 14, 2021 in the 3900 block of Behrman Highway.
  • On April 14, 2021, NOPD Sixth District arrested George Kelly (black male, DOB: 07-23-1975) for attempted second-degree murder, illegal discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence and for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The incident occurred in the 3200 block of Loyola Avenue on February 21, 2021.
  • On April 13, 2021, NOPD Eighth District detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Corey Coleman (black male, DOB: 08-04-1994) for aggravated battery by shooting. The incident occurred in the 500 block of Canal Street on December 12, 2020.   • On April 12, 2021, NOPD Fifth District obtained an arrest warrant for Cam’Ron Bryant (black male, DOB: 01-24-2003) for attempted murder and illegal discharging of a firearm. The incident occurred in the 1800 block of St. Maurice Street on April 9, 2021.   • On April 12, 2021, NOPD Fifth District officers obtained an arrest warrant on Wilbert Lamothe (black male, DOB: 01-14-1978) for attempted murder. The incident occurred at the intersection of North Roman and Touro streets on March 31, 2021. Armed Robbery

  • On April 14, 2021, NOPD Third District detectives obtained an arrest warrant for James Sansone V (black male, DOB: 05-18-1998) for armed robbery, second-degree kidnapping and illegal possession of stolen things. The incident occurred in the 4900 block of Spain Street on April 14, 2021.   • On April 14, 2021 NOPD First District detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Devin Schaffer (black male, DOB: 08-09-2001) for armed robbery. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Ursuline Avenue on April 3, 2021.   • On April 13, 2021, NOPD Sixth District detectives arrested Russell Boyer (white male, DOB: 10-16-1957) for armed robbery. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of General Pershing Street on April 4, 2021.
  • On April 13, 2021, NOPD Second District obtained an arrest warrant for Joseph Ramirez (white male, DOB: 05-06-1988) for armed robbery. The incident occurred at Plum Street and Ferry Place on November 27, 2020.   • On April 11, 2021, NOPD’s Violent Crime Abatement Investigation Team (VCAIT) arrested a 13-year-old juvenile male for simple robbery, carjacking and attempted second-degree murder. The incident occurred in the 2800 block of Toulouse Street on April 6, 2021. Additionally, the juvenile was also rebooked by NOPD Second District detectives for property snatching in an incident in the 6200 block of South Claiborne Avenue on April 6, 2021; and for accessory after the fact to theft of a motor vehicle and for possession of stolen things in an incident in the 600 block of South Broad Street on April 6, 2021. The juvenile has been re-booked for several additional crimes to which he has been connected.

Other significant arrests

  • On April 16, 2021, an NOPD Second District officer arrested  Benjamin Mackey (black male, DOB: 01-06-1998) after a traffic stop at the intersection of Valmont and South Robertson streets led to the discovery of illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, a firearm and more than $2,100 in cash Mackey was arrested and booked with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and for carrying of weapons while in possession of narcotics.
  • On April 15, 2021, NOPD officers arrested six suspects – including five juveniles – believed to be involved in a series of simple robberies, auto burglaries and auto thefts throughout the City of New Orleans. After an authorized vehicle pursuit in the Third District, the subjects fled on foot into the 3800 block of Elysian Fields Avenue. The adult suspect, Jarmon James (black male, DOB: 02/04/2003) and five juveniles males (three 16-year-old males, one 15-year-old male and one 13-year-old male) were each apprehended, arrested and booked on charges respective to their alleged involvement in multiple incidents spanning multiple NOPD districts.
