Suspect Identified in Third District Attempted Simple Robbery

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Melvin Rivers (pictured, DOB: 12-19-1993) in the investigation of an attempted simple robbery that occurred on April 5, 2020.

At about 2:00 p.m., a perpetrator later positively identified as Rivers allegedly approached the victim while in the 4300 block of Chef Menteur Highway demanding money he stated was owed to him. The victim reportedly refused and the perpetrator and an unknown black male struck the victim with closed fists and kicked the victim in the back. Rivers then reportedly searched the victim’s pants pockets, but the victim did not have any money. The subjects then fled the scene.

When located, Rivers and the second unknown suspect will be arrested for attempted simple robbery.

Anyone with information on this incident or on the whereabouts of Rivers or the second suspect is asked to contact NOPD Third District detectives at 504-658-6030, or call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
