NOPD Investigating Homicide in Third District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (April 1, 2020) in the 2700 block of Marigny Street.

At about 5:32 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to the location and, upon initial investigation, discovered an unresponsive adult male. The victim was declared dead at the scene.  At that time, the incident was considered an unclassified death.

As investigation into the incident progressed, the victim was found to have sustained a gunshot wound. At that time, the incident was reclassified as a homicide and NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed control of the investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

No additional details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
