NOPD Investigating Homicide in First District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred this evening (April 1, 2020) at the intersection of North Broad Street and Bayou Road.

Just before 9:00 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unknown male inside of a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he later expired. At that time, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed control of the investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

No additional details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
