NOPD Investigating Homicide in First District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (April 5, 2020) at the intersection of Dumaine and North Broad streets.

Just before 3:00 p.m., NOPD First District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim down and unresponsive. The victim was transported to a local hospital via EMS, where he later expired. At that point, NOPD Homicide Unit investigators assumed control of the investigation.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

No additional details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
