NOPD Arrests Suspect on Drug, Gun Charges in Eighth District

The NOPD has arrested Fred Henry III (DOB: 02-20-1994) after he was reportedly found in illegal possession of narcotics and a firearm near the intersection of Canal and Carondelet streets on April 20, 2019.

An NOPD Eighth District officer conducted a traffic stop at the location after reportedly observing an unoccupied vehicle impeding the flow of traffic. As the officer exited her unit, she smelled a distinct and strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When she approached the vehicle, the officer observed on the vehicle’s center console green vegetable matter suspected to be marijuana. During investigation, the vehicle’s operator – later identified as Henry, returned to the location along with his juvenile male son.

In the investigation, the officer discovered and confiscated the following items from inside of the vehicle: approximately 12 ounces of marijuana; approximately 40 pills of oxycodone; one assault rifle, along with 26 live rounds for the rifle; and approximately $12,500 in cash.

Henry was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
