NOPD Arrests Suspect Found in Illegal Possession of Firearm in Eighth District

The NOPD arrested John Coate (DOB: 02-18-1998) after he was found by NOPD officers to be in illegal possession of a firearm while at the intersection of Bourbon and St. Louis streets on April 9, 2019.

At about 10:30 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers were patrolling near the intersection of Bourbon and St. Louis streets when the officers noticed a distinct outline of a firearm under an unknown white male’s shirt as he stood near the intersection. Upon further investigation, the subject – later identified as Coate – was found to have a completely concealed black handgun containing live rounds. The handgun was concealed inside of the subject’s right waistband under his shirt. The subject did not have a concealed carry permit.

The officers relocated the subject to the station where he was later transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center and booked accordingly.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080, or to call anonymously to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
