NOPD Arrests Multiple Suspects for Illegal Firearm Possession in Eighth District

NOPD Arrests Multiple Suspects for Illegal Firearm Possession in Eighth District

The NOPD arrested multiple suspects in recent days, after each was found to be in illegal possession of a firearm in the Eighth District in respective incidents. These include:

  • Dweldon Hithe (pictured above at top left, DOB: 10-02-1989). On April 11, 2019, at about 10:28 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers were patrolling in the 100 block of Bourbon St when they viewed a subject later identified as Hithe reportedly smoking marijuana. HIthe was placed under arrest and, upon search incident to arrest, was found to have a completely concealed and loaded handgun in his backpack, along with additional rounds and magazines. Hithe reportedly did not have a concealed carry permit and was also found to be in possession of a clear plastic bag containing marijuana. Officers relocated Hithe t the Eighth District station, where he was later transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center and booked accordingly.
  • Thalji Farhat (pictured above at top right, DOB: 11-19-1975). On April 11, 2019, at about 11:00 p.m., NOPD officers were patrolling in the 300 block of Bourbon when the officers noticed a bulge under the shirt of a subject later identified as Farhat. The budge created a hard edge, which led the officers to believe the subject was in possession of a concealed firearm. Upon further investigation, Farhat was found to have a completely concealed handgun containing live rounds. Farhat did not have a concealed carry permit. Officers relocated Farhat to the Eighth District station, where he was later transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center and booked accordingly.
  • Albert Wilkerson (pictured above at bottom left, DOB: 02-07-1982). On April 13, 2019 at or about 4:37 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers were patrolling near the intersection of Bourbon and St. Ann streets during the annual French Quarter Festival, when the officers noticed an “L” shaped object under the shirt of a subject later identified as Wilkerson. This discovery led the officers to believe Wilkerson was in possession of a concealed firearm. Upon further investigation, Wilkerson was found to have a completely concealed handgun containing live ammunition. Wilkerson did not have a concealed carry permit.  The officers relocated Wilkerson to the Eighth District station, where he was later transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center and booked accordingly.
  • Waylon Reed (pictured above at bottom right, DOB: 02-05-1994). On Monday, April 15, 2019 at about 12:34 a.m., NOPD Eighth District officers patrolling in the 400 Block of Bourbon street when the officers noticed an “L” shaped object under a male subject’s shirt. The officers believed the subject - later identified as Reed - was in possession of a concealed firearm. Upon further investigation, Reed was found to have a completely concealed handgun containing one magazine with live rounds. Reed was also reportedly found to be in possession of an extended magazine that contained additional live rounds. Reed did not have a concealed carry permit. The officers relocated Reed to the Eighth District station, where he was later transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center and booked accordingly.
