Subject Wanted by NOPD for DNA Swab in Vehicle Burglary Investigation

The NOPD has obtained a warrant to obtain DNA swab evidence from Brandon Lee Sims (DOB: 03-15-1993) in connection with an ongoing vehicle burglary investigation.

On October 14, 2017, NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of a vehicle burglary in the 5000 block of Woodland Drive. Upon arrival and speaking to the victim, officers learned that the victim had parked and locked his vehicle on October 13 at about 10:30 p.m. at the location. When he returned to his vehicle on October 14 at about 11 a.m., he observed his vehicle’s passenger side door to be slightly ajar. The victim said he opened the door and discovered that personal items had been removed from the vehicle, including a handgun.

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives developed Sims as a possible suspect. Evidence discovered during the investigation led a magistrate court judge to order a search warrant for police to obtain a swab of DNA evidence from Sims for comparison testing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the whereabouts of Brandon Lee Sims is asked to contact Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
