NOPD Arrests Suspect in Aggravated Assault with a Firearm on Bourbon Street

The NOPD has arrested Nicholas Morel (DOB: 01-25-1987) for allegedly pointing a handgun at a victim outside of a bar in the 400 block of Bourbon Street on March 22, 2018.

At about 1:24 a.m., NOPD Eighth District Bourbon Street Promenade Officers were patrolling the area on foot when they were flagged down by the manager of The Swamp Bar, who informed the officers of a disturbance at the location. Upon arrival, the officers were given a handgun that was reportedly taken from the suspect, later identified as Morel, who had been detained with a second individual after the two had allegedly been engaged in an altercation with a member of the bar’s security staff. During the altercation, Morel reportedly punched and then pointed the gun at the security staff member, after the second individual reportedly pushed the security staff member.

Based on the evidence and information received, officers arrested Morel and booked him into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm in an alcoholic beverage outlet, illegal carrying of a concealed weapon and as a felon in possession of a firearm. The second suspect was brought to the Eighth District station for questioning, but was not arrested and was subsequently released.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080.
