NOPD Arrest Suspect in Multiple Auto Burglary Incidents

Sixth District officers arrested Byron Johnson (DOB: 02-06-1975) on Friday, March 23, 2018, in connection with several auto burglary incidents.

The reporting person told police he observed Johnson trespassing at a nearby construction site. The suspect was carrying bags, which the reporting person believed had tools belonging to construction workers in it.

The victim left his company’s 2015 white Chevy E250, bearing Louisiana license plate #N395165, unlocked on the construction site, located in the 1200 block of S. Roman Street. Six powers tools and two clothing items were reported stolen from the vehicle.

During the investigation, officers observed the suspect walking on S. Galvez Street, carrying three bags. Officers approached the suspect, at which time the suspect released his bags and fled on foot, running eastbound on S. Galvez Street. The suspect was later apprehended without incident.

While searching Johnson’s person, officers discovered a loaded 9mm firearm magazine and a beige bag, containing multiple checks, in his rear pants pocket, which was reported stolen in a separate auto burglary incident that occurred in Jefferson Parish. Officers also discovered an ASI Federal Credit Union visa debit card, which was reported stolen in a separate auto burglary incident on Sunday, February 4, 2018, near the intersection of Tchoupitoulas and Julia Street.

Johnson was transported to Central Lockup, where he was booked accordingly.
