Suspect Arrested for Possessing Bags of Marijuana and a Gun

On April 25, 2017, NOPD Second District officers arrested George Green (DOB: 2-12-94) after he was found in possession of more than 20 bags of marijuana and a handgun.

 At around 6:30 p.m., Officers Michael Dewey and Alex Winks were riding in a marked NOPD unit and observed a black Cadillac SUV swerving in the road at the intersection of General Ogden Street and Apricot Street. Officers then conducted a license plate check of the vehicle, which revealed the owner - identified as Green - had several warrants for his arrest in Jefferson Parish.

Officers stopped the vehicle and learned the driver was a friend of Green, who in the passenger seat.  While speaking to the Green, officers noticed a distinct odor of non-burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers then requested that Green exit the vehicle, noting the smell of marijuana. At that time, Green told the officers he had just purchased the drugs.

As officers searched the vehicle, they also observed a silver Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun and 20 individual black packages containing a vegetable matter suspected to be marijuana.

Green was arrested and transported to Central Lockup, where he was booked accordingly.
