Person of Interest Sought in Homicide on Columbus Street

The NOPD are seeking to interview Leonard Ward (DOB: 06-05-1963), who has been identified as a person of interest in a stabbing death that occurred in the 1600 block of Columbus Street on February 27, 2017.

Shortly before 9 a.m., NOPD officers responded to a call of a stabbing at the intersection of Columbus Street and North Claiborne Avenue. Upon arrival they found the victim, later identified as Ciara McElveen, suffering from stab wounds. EMS transported the victim to an area hospital, where the victim later died.

During the course of investigation, NOPD Homicide detectives identified Ward a person of interest in the investigation.

Ward is not wanted in connection with this incident. Detectives wish to interview Ward, as they feel he may have valuable information related to the investigation.
