NOPD Deputy Chief Danny Murphy led a two-day training session on police reforms for more than 20 members of the Baltimore Police Department as their department starts to implement new policies and reforms under a federal consent decree.

Superintendent Michael Harrison, along with leaders from the NOFD and NOEMS, joined Mayor Mitch Landrieu today to update the public on the results of major investments in public safety, and on the success of a strong crime-fighting year for the men and women of the New Orleans Police Department.

NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison has been selected to participate in an Executive Leadership Group (ELG) which will lead a three-day public safety summit at Harvard University.

The New Orleans Police Department teamed up with Fuse Corps Fellowship to host a Fuse Fellow for the duration of a one year term. E. Aminata Brown was selected to join the NOPD as a Fuse Fellow Executive Advisor from October 2017 through October 2018.

NOPD Fifth District Officer James Roberson had only hours earlier been part of a training held by New Orleans EMS for officers who volunteered to learn how to deploy naloxone, known commonly as Narcan, to help block the effects of opioids, particularly in overdose situations.

However, while en route to respond to an unrelated call, his newfound knowledge would be put to the test when a citizen flagged he and his fellow officers down requesting help for a friend who was overdosing on heroine.
