The NOPD is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on the evening of September 19, 2023, in the 400 block of South Claiborne Avenue that left two people dead.

At about 10:09 p.m., NOPD Eighth and First District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash with injury at the location. Upon arrival and through further investigation by the NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit, it was determined that the driver of a Honda Accord sedan was traveling in the left eastbound lane on South Claiborne Avenue and attempted to turn left onto Gravier Street. At the same time, a motorized dirt bike occupied by two adult males is believed to have driven to the outside of the same lane to pass the Accord when the vehicles collided in the intersection The two occupants of the dirt bike were ejected from the vehicle and landed under the overpass. One of the victims was pronounced deceased on scene, while the second was transported to a local hospital and later declared deceased there.

The occupants of the Honda were not injured, remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation.
