NOPD Arrests Suspect in First District Shooting Investigation

On September 23, 2023, the NOPD arrested Louis Claiborne Jr. (black male, DOB: 12-22-1977) in the investigation of a shooting that occurred on September 22, 2023, in the 1600 block of Saint Bernard Avenue.

At about 1:57 p.m. on September 22, the victim was reportedly standing near a street corner as an unknown SUV approached. An unknown subject inside the vehicle reportedly opened fire, striking the victim. The victim was transported via New Orleans EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

Through investigation, NOPD First District detectives developed and positively identified Claiborne as the perpetrator in this incident. On September 23, officers located Claiborne in the 2500 block of Republic Street and arrested him without incident.

Claiborne was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count each of aggravated second-degree battery, assault by drive-by shooting and for illegal use of weapons.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
