NOPD Investigating Homicide in Eighth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (September 8, 2020) at the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Canal Street that left one person dead.

At about 12:32 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers and Louisiana State Police on active patrol in the area responded to the location after reportedly hearing gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. At that time, the incident was reclassified as a homicide.

Two individuals believed to be related to this incident were detained near the scene. No further details are currently available regarding these individuals' respective statuses in the investigation.

The victim and detained subjects in this incident are all believed to be from the Lake Charles, LA area.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information in this active investigation. No further details are available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name upon completion of an autopsy and notification of family.
