NOPD Arrests Two Suspects for Illegal Gun, Drug Possession in Eighth District

NOPD Eighth District Task Force officers arrested two suspects on gun and drug illegal possession charges in respective incidents on September 14, 2018.

In one incident, officers conducted a pedestrian stop at the intersection of Canal and South Rampart Street. Upon approach, the officers found the subject – later identified as Ellis Wyatt (DOB: 01-20-1995) to be in possession of marijuana. During a subsequent search of the suspect, the officers discovered the subject to be in possession of a handgun that was later found to have been reported stolen from St. Charles Parish.

Wyatt was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal possession of a stolen weapon, and possession of marijuana.

In a second incident, officers conducted a pedestrian stop at the intersection of Tulane Avenue and Elk Place. Upon approach, the officers found the subject – later identified as David Smith (DOB: 10-29-1985) to be in possession of marijuana. During a subsequent search of the suspect, the officers discovered the subject to be in possession of a handgun that was later found to have been reported lost from St. Bernard Parish.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana.
