NOPD Eighth District Task Force officers arrested Jaronay Spears (DOB: 01-28-1993) on drug and gun possession charges during a traffic stop that occurred on September 4, 2018 in the 1400 block of Canal Street.
The officers reported that, upon approaching the vehicle, they smelled burnt marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Spears, then reportedly admitted to having smoked marijuana inside of the vehicle prior to the stop and to having marijuana on her person. After Spears relinquished a bag of marijuana, the officers secured a search warrant for the vehicle. Upon executing said warrant, the officers discovered additional bagged marijuana, hash oil, amphetamines and a handgun.
Spears was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana and possession of amphetamines.
