The NOPD is investigating a crash involving a vehicle and a bicycle that occurred last night (October 1, 2023) at North Claiborne Avenue and Touro Street that resulted in the death of the bicyclist.
At about 11:11 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash at the location. Upon arrival and through further investigation, it was determined that a vehicle was traveling eastbound on North Claiborne, and had the right-of-way, when an adult male on a bicycle rode out in front of the vehicle from Touro Street.
The bicyclist was transported by EMS to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the victim and determine cause of death in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
