NOPD Investigating Homicide in Fifth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred this evening (October 9, 2022) in the 1900 block of Port Street and left one person dead.

At about 6:25 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of a male shooting victim arriving at a business in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased. Upon further investigation, the location of occurrence was determined to be the 1800 block of Port Street.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
