NOPD Investigating Traffic Fatality in Third District

The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred on October 7, 2020 on Interstate 610 West at St. Bernard Avenue.

At about 11:09 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered the wreckage of a silver Trans Am along the interior guardrail on I-610 West and a male victim lying in the roadway. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased.

Through investigation, detectives determined that the victim was driving the Trans Am westbound on I-610 when, for reasons undetermined, he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the exterior guardrail. The vehicle then crossed into the center lane and rolled over, at which time the driver was ejected. The vehicle then came to rest against the interior guard rail.

The Orleans Parish Coroner will officially identify the victim in this incident upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

Traffic Fatality Investigator Michael Baldassaro is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6205 with any additional information.
